Barbara Mitchell

Barbara Mitchell has had an international career as a translator, interpreter and teacher of French and Spanish and has travelled widely in South and Central America.

Her work has largely focused on issues of global politics, human rights and the environment. After an MA in International Relations, she spent ten years researching and writing about Antarctica and the Law of the Sea. 

In 2026 she translated De Memoria: Entre Arpilleras y Carbón de Piedra - the prison memoir by Arinda Ojeda Aravena - from Chilean Spanish into English. Barbara's translation The Hope We Still Hang Onto will be published by Palewell Press in early 2026
