Barbara Mitchell has had an international career as a translator, interpreter and teacher of French and Spanish and has travelled widely in South and Central America. Her work has largely focused on issues of global politics, human rights and the environment. After an MA in International Relations, she spent ten years researching and writing about Antarctica and the Law of the Sea.  

In March 2026, Palewell Press will publish The Hope We Still Hang Onto - Barbara's translation from Chilean Spanish of De Memoria: Entre Arpilleras y Carbón de Piedra by Arinda Ojeda Aravena.
