The poems in this new collection from Nick Alldridge are concerned with some of our most vital needs as social beings like kindness, respect and a willingness to compromise. With courage, humour and compassion, he dares to approach the sensitive topics of gender, mental health and poverty. How can we learn to live alongside the people around us without giving offense and, equally important in Nick’s view, without just ignoring them? I’m very drawn to the idea of a world where a God of Kindness is waiting for me at my local coffee shop, ready to listen to my worries and rest a comforting hand on my shoulder.
