Sophia Argyris

Sophia Argyris was born in Belgium to an English and Greek family. She grew up there, and in the North of Scotland. The Scottish landscape continues to influence her writing. She has lived in the Lake District and London, and is currently based in Oxfordshire, where she writes, teaches yoga and meditation. Since the deaths of her parents her poetry has focused on grief, closely linked to the sense of loss that many of us are experiencing due to the climate crises.

Sophia’s work has been published widely in anthologies and magazines, including Ink Sweat & Tears, The Interpreter’s House, Magma, Poetry London, Poetry Wales and Under the Radar amongst others. Her first pamphlet Strange Longing For A Monday (erbacce press) was published in 2010. Her first collection How Do the Parakeets Stay Green? (Indigo Dreams Publishing) won the Geoff Stevens Memorial Prize. In March 20525, Palewell Press published her pamphlet collection, Heronless.

Her writing has been placed and highly commended in competitions including the Verve Eco Poetry Competition, the Welshpool Open Competition and the Plough Prize.

She collaborated with Oxford based musician he didn’t to create a three track EP combining her poems and his musical soundscapes, released in 2023 and available from Drone Alone Records.
