Photo-Susan Jordan

Susan Jordan moved to Devon in 2011, having spent most of her life in London, and loves being close to the countryside and the coast. She worked as a psychotherapist for many years but retired in 2022. She also worked for a branch of Mind, in projects committed to helping users of mental health services lead fuller lives. Part of the inspiration for The Box comes from her work at Mind. The experience of abuse she describes in the novel is also based to a large extent on her work.

Susan has always wanted to write. She read English at Oxford and has an MA in Creative Writing from Bath Spa University, where she wrote both fiction and poetry. She has published two full-length collections of poetry and two pamphlets, one of which won a competition, and her poetry has appeared in magazines and anthologies. She has been involved with Buddhist practice since the 1980s and regularly goes on retreat. She has various interests, including music, and sings in a local choir. She shares her home with a cat called Koala.
