David Punter

David Punter is a poet, writer and academic. In 2020 Palewell Press published Those Other Fields, his pamphlet of poetry on Human Rights and the environment. His previous books include six slim volumes of poetry: China and Glass (Bran’s Head, 1985); Lost in the Supermarket (Open Heart, Hong Kong, 1987); Asleep at the Wheel (Amani, 1996); Selected Short Stories (Hub Editions, 1999); Foreign Ministry (Hub Editions, 2011); and Bristol: 21 Poems (Amazon, 2017). In 2014 he brought out an audio-CD of his work, Flashes in the Dark.

David's poetry and short stories have been published in many magazines in the UK and North America, including Vision On, Full Circle Thirteen, PN Review, Labrys, The Rialto, Thames Poetry, Other Poetry, Ariel, Tenth Decade, Blind Serpent, Yes!, Encounter, Mercury, Puckerbrush Review, Purple Patch, Plains Poetry Journal, Joe Soap’s Canoe, Spectrum, Lines Review, Piedmont Literary Review, Orbis, Peace and Freedom, Outposts, Bordoni, Poetry Nottingham, Kansas Quarterly, The Fiddlehead, Chapman, New Orleans Review, Carillon, Long Poem Magazine, Gadabout, Literature Today, Raceme and Welling Up-Palewell Press Anthology 2019.

He has read at venues in the UK, including ones in Norwich, Liverpool, Birmingham, Bristol, York, and London’s Barbican Centre, as well as in China and Hong Kong. He has read and performed at the Bath Festival, the Bristol Poetry Festival, the Cheltenham Poetry Festival, the Ledbury Poetry Festival and the Stroud Book Festival.
