Michael Geoffrey Baron was born in London on Christmas Day, 1928. He was educated at Westminster School and Trinity College Cambridge. He endured working as a solicitor in the City of London, and Twickenham from 1956 to 1991. He then moved to Cumbria and worked in Whitehaven until 1994.

He is the father of an autistic son and co-founder of the National Autistic Society for which he was awarded an MBE in 1980.

In Cumbria he organized a poetry competition and initiated the Words by the Water literary festival held annually in Keswick. He was a board member of New Writing North and the Cumbria Poets Workshop. He has edited and co-edited several anthologies including On a Bat’s Wing and The Night Shift (Five Leaves Press) and The Cockermouth Poets. He self-published his first collection, More than a Man in a Boat in 2005. The Gingko Tree and Other Poems is his first commercially published collection.
