Sue Wallace-Shaddad

Following a long international career with the British Council, Sue gained an MA in Writing Poetry from Newcastle University/Poetry School London in 2020. Clayhanger Press published her book, Sleeping Under Clouds, a collaboration with artist Sula Rubens R.W.S., in April 2023. The poems focus on displacement, journeying, survival and kinship, particularly from the perspective of children. Dempsey and Windle published her debut pamphlet ‘A City Waking Up’ in October 2020 which comprises poems about family life, the language, food and traditions in Khartoum, Sudan.

Sue was longlisted for the Cinnamon Press New Voices Award in 2023. Her poems have been featured in London Grip, Artemis, The High Window, Fenland Poetry Journal, Finished Creatures, Acumen, Ink, Sweat & Tears and Poetry Scotland among others and in various anthologies. In 2023, Ink, Sweat & Tears featured her work to mark the theme of refuge for National Poetry Day. Sue also self-published a pamphlet A Working Life in 2014.

In 2023-24, Sue was the recipient of an Arts Council Developing Your Creative Practice grant for mentoring by Rebecca Goss. She writes poetry reviews for London Grip and The Alchemy Spoon and is Secretary of Suffolk Poetry Society.
